Yunnan to Host Plateau Sailing Race

The “Solar Mountain” cup International Plateau Contest will be held at Fuxian Lake in Yunnan province on April 1.

All the boats will be FAREAST 28R designed by Simonis-Voogd. The width is 2.75 meters and the length is 1.75 meters. The displacement is 1200 kilograms.

There will be 10 A groups for professionals and 10 B groups for amateurs. Each group in each category will be composed of eight people. The champion A group will win 15,000 yuan and the champion B Group will win 10,000 yuan.

This year’s contest, to be held at Fuxian Lake, the largest deep lake in China, has attracted the interest of contestants from home and abroad. Famous groups such as Sailing In, Dali International Team and the Dalian Sailors Club will take part in the contest, enhancing its influence.

The contest is cosponsored by the China Sailing Association, the Yunnan provincial Sports Bureau and the Yuxi Municipal Government.

The Yuxi Tourism Development Association, the Chengjiang County Government, the Xiamen Wanshi Sailors Club and Yunnan Papers Cultural Investment and Development Company co-organized the activity.

The sailing contest is in line with advocation of green development because sailing itself is environmentally friendly. The sponsors also hope to attract the attention of citizens and thus lay a solid foundation for sailing events in Yunnan provinces
