Yuxi Senior Hosts Personal Carving Exhibition
Over 200 carvings of Wang Wenxiang will be exhibited at the Yuxi Museum from April 10 to May 10, ynci.cn reported. Born in 1935, Wang used to work on farms. However, he had a strong interest in carving, which he never wanted to lose.
Wang began calligraphy carving in 1990, when he was already 56 years old. After 25 years of hard work, he finally got his first personal exhibition at the age of 81.
In the past several decades, Wang has carved over 1,000 pieces for Jiulongchi Park, Xiushan Park and Nie’er Park. His works are very popular among collectors both in and outside of China. He is thus regarded as the best calligraphy carving master in Yunnan.
“My father used to encourage me do something useful for society,” said Wang, when asked about his motivation to keep carving for decades.
