Kunming Puts on Month-long Purple Pottery Display
The Yunnan Nationalities Museum in Kunming opened its purple pottery exhibition on April 26, with around 200 items on display. Purple pottery is native to Jianshui county in Yunnan province and received its name because of its color. The pottery became an intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
With pieces on display from a variety of pottery masters, the exhibition represents sophisticated pottery art and is expected to increase the popularity of Jianshui's pottery-related industries, according to Ma Xingyun, vice head of the province's Purple Pottery Association.
The event will run until May 31 and lectures on purple pottery will be held.
