Lijiang Ancient Town, the Home of Naxi People in Yunnan

Built in the late Song Dynasty (960-1297) and the early Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), the town boasts more than 800 years of history. It epitomizes Naxi culture, in particular its buildings. The Naxi people preserve a deep spiritual connection to nature, so the buildings embrace local physical features of the area and are mainly made of stone and wood. The houses absorb other ethnic groups’ traditions and create an innovative style.

The old town of Shuhe
Four kilometers (2 miles) to the northwest of Lijiang ancient town, at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, lies the Old Town of Shuhe, a village hidden in the forest. It is an important component of Lijiang as it is one of the earliest settlements of the  Naxi people’s ancestors.


Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
Located in the Lijiang Autonomous County of the Naxi Ethnic Minority, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is the most southern snow mountain in the northern hemisphere. It's holly pilgrim mountain for Naxi with a altitude over 4,000 meters and combining a natural landscape of subtropical, temperate and frigid zones.
