New Yunnan Provincial Museum Opened in Kunming
The museum is officially opened on 18 May which is the International Museum Day. The exhibition for the opening of the museum is the ever largest-scale in Yunnan Province, including 6 basic displays and 4 special exhibitions. For the exhibition there are more than 10,000 items of cultural relics which include lithic wares, bronze wares, paintings, wooden and tooth wares, and costumes etc.
The New Yunnan Provincial Museum is one of the ten symbolic cultural facility projects of Yunnan Province, covering a total area of 10 hectares among which the architectural coverage is about 60,000 square metres.
The profile of the 39-metre-high architecture is cubiod designed by Rocco Design Architects Limited (Hong Kong). It implies Yunnan's traditional architecture style "Yi Ke Yin" (resembling to a seal when looked from above). What’s more is the design and materials (alum) of walls respectively implies that "Yunnan is a kingdom of nonferrous metals" and a land of colorful ethnic customs.
The smart designing of the museum has created a comfortable, natural, and harmonious artistic ambience. Thanks to the combination of tradition and modernity, tradition and fashion, the museum as a whole impresses visitors in a magnificent and majestic manner. So far, it is the largest, best-equipped and most modern of its kind in Yunnan Province.
Plus various theme exhibitions, the museum anyway is a must-go for visitors to Kunming.
