Chinese Expatriates from Yunnan to Gather in Pu'er
The city of Pu'er in Yunnan province will hold the 8th Yunnan Fellowship on July 8 and 9. Around 400 expatriates from Yunnan living in 19 countries will gather at the event.
The gathering is designed to display Yunnan's culture and its achievements after the implementation of the reform and opening-up in 1978. The event is held with the aim of encouraging overseas Chinese citizens to help Yunnan build a demonstration site of national solidarity and ecological civilization. It is also hoped that the Chinese expatriates from Yunnan will help with the development of the Belt and Road Initiative – namely, the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visits to Kazakhstan and Indonesia in 2013.
The fellowship will arrange youth culture salons, forums, cultural performances and lectures on Pu'er tea.
