Overview:Dali ancient Xizhou Village is featured by its Bai Ethnic Minority architecture with famous mansions such as the Yan Compound and the Hou Compound. The village flourished in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and became well known as home to tea merchants.
Located 18 kilometers north of the Dali Ancient City in China Yunnan Province, the ancient Xizhou Village is characterized by its Bai Ethnic Minority architecture. There are several large mansions in the village, the most famous ones are the Yan Compound and the Hou Compound. The village flourished in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and became well known as home to tea merchants. Each year teams of horses would set out on the Ancient Tea Horse Trail from Xizhou to Tibet. This lucrative trade allowed the villagers to build incredible mansions and private gardens featured with elegant and exquisite "San Fang Yi Zhao Bi" "Si He Wu Tian Jing", paneled doors, sculptural relief, hand-colored painting, etc.
