The Old Town of Lijiang Hosts Lucky Draw
The Old Town of Lijiang hosted a lucky draw on Jan 6 from 2,648,513 receipts for old town maintenance fees collected from July 1 to Dec 31, 2015.
Ten tourists were the lucky winners of 200,000 yuan ($30,560) each. The winning numbers will be shown on the official website of the administration authority of the Old Town of Lijiang (http://www.ljgc.gov.cn), Lijiang Daily,Yunnan TV station.
Since 1997, a total of 3.7 billion yuan has been devoted to the maintenance of the old town of Lijiang for infrastructure construction such as telecommunication, electricity, water, and transportation.
The old town maintenance fee was first launched in 2001 and has generated 2.77 billion yuan. All the money has been devoted to the old town of Lijiang.
In July 2011, the Lijiang People’s Government decided to host a lucky draw on Jan 6 and July 6 of each year. So far, eight draws have been held with 80 winners.
"The maintenance fee was aimed at protecting the beauty of the old town of Lijiang and the draw is a way to encourage visitors to pay the maintenance fee voluntarily," said an official from the city’s tourism authority.
After years of effort, Lijiang has become the only city in China to hold five tourism honors including National Historical Cultural City, National Scenic Spot, National 5A Tourists Spot, and National Civilized Tourism Attraction.
